Abstracts patient charts and assign appropriate diagnostic codes. This function is accomplished in a prompt and reasonable timeframe in accordance with productivity and accuracy standards.

Synopsize important information from patient records and assign / review medical codes for accuracy.

Responsible for ensuring codes meet all federal, legal & Insurance regulations so payments are obtained in a timely manner.

Keep abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements. If concerns are identified, bring concerns to the attention of the Medical Coding Supervisor for resolution.

Update skill and knowledge levels in accordance with CMS approved (AHA and AMA) coding changes.

Complies with confidentiality standards and HIPAA privacy regulations.

Perform other tasks and projects as needed by medical coding operations.
